Our Viewers Thoughts on the New Sliding Scale Premiums for Medicare Beneficiares

(10/19/09)- The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said that most seniors will pay a $93.50 monthly premium for coverage under Medicare's Part B, which covers doctors' visits and outpatient care. This represents a $5 increase over the $88.50 monthly premium in 2006.

Starting next year Medicare single beneficiaries with income of $80,000 to $100,000 and joint income tax return beneficiaries with incomes of $160,000 to $200,000 will pay a premium of $105.80 for their Part B coverage;
singles with income of $100,001 to $150,000 and joint income tax return beneficiaries with income of $200,001 to $300,000 will pay $124.40;
singles with incomes of $150,001 to $200,000 and joint income tax return beneficiaries with income of $300,001 to $400,000 will pay $142.90;
and singles with incomes above $200,000 and joint income tax return beneficiaries with income above $400,00 will pay $161.40

We at therubins feel that these new sliding scale premiums for Medicare beneficiaries represent such a substantial change from the present system that we should throw the issue out to our viewers to see what their opinions are on the matter. We have not taken a position on this issue, but we would love to hear from you about the matter. We will post your e-mails on this page so that you will be able to express your opinion to the visitors who come to this site.

 The following are our viewers' opinions, as expressed to us by their e-mails

Hi,
Could you tell me why individuals with an income ranging from $ 100,000 to over $200,00 have Medicare for that matter Social Security?
I receive approximately $ 542.00 gross income monthly on disability and my husband about $ 1,100.00 per month and we pay each the same premium as people that make at least 10 times that amount.

We do not need a sliding scale for people with such high income they should not even get Medicare.
All other people should only pay 10% if that much of there monthly income . The whole system is flawed and full of holes big enough that an aircraft carrier could easily flow through.
If you are people that really care for seniors and disable then get this government who doesn't give a damn about the working poor,seniors or disable to change a system that only benefit the rich and richer.
